For many of my students, this will be their first year of school. They're young and should not have to sit in a desk all day to learn. My goal is to make learning fun. The items in this project will be used to create a amazing dramatic play area. “Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning.” -Mr. Rogers. I have so many ideas for the sand/water table. I have lots of items for digging for buried "treasure". When filled with water, we can talk about things that sink versus things that float. There are endless possibilities for a sand/water table. Some of my kiddos will need to learn the letters and some will simply need to practice how to make the letters. The tracing/lacing letters and the letter construction activity letters will help both of these types of students. We can practice putting letters together and blending sounds to make words. The kids can use the letters to "sew" their names. They will be able to literally see that some letters use the same shapes. The dramatic play area is probably what I'm most excited about. In this area, kids will be learning problem solving and practicing their fine/gross motor skills. The kids can dress up as different occupations and "work" with the dramatic play costumes, cell phones, and the handyman tool set. We could set up a grocery store and practice math with the healthy food set, sandwich making set, and the large calculator cash register. All of these items will allow the kids to learn without even realizing that it is happening.
