I am wanting to foster a LOVE of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). To do this, I am wanting to create a "Maker Space". This is a space where students can create engineering and art projects. Students need hands on experiences to help foster their problem solving skills. The best developmentally appropriate way for students to do this is a hands-on play like approach. This can be achieved in a maker space will be a controlled environment where students can explore, take chances, make mistakes, and maybe get a little messy. (Thanks Miss Frizzle for parts of my motto). The material requested will be placed in the makers space. The art supplies will allow students to be able to create anything their imagination will come up with. They will be able to paint, cut, glue sculpt, and draw. I have also requested engineering sets. Where students are given a problem, and they must create the solution. My goal is to help students learn how to think of a solution indepently. They will be able to test out their ideas using the materials in the sets. They can see is they accomplished their goal or have to change their ideas. This is a great way to help teach science, math, and engineering in a hands on way. It will also help them see that not every problem has just one solution. It can have several. Please help us get some much needed supplies to help this space come a reality.
