Basic school supplies and manipulatives help these children in the resource room be successful and not have to worry about bringing materials from their classroom or not having the proper supplies needed. While in the resource room my students often use manipulatives. We are focusing this year on a multi sensory approach and focusing on phonics and intense reading interventions. All of these materials will be used to reach students and the different ways that they learn.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
All of these hands-on materials will be used to practice blending, segmenting, and creating new words to help students become better readers. The teacher books, Road to the Code and Assessing Reading Multiple Measurs, will allow me to assess the students and see what gaps are in their learning and where we should start with their reading instruction. The Fineliner pens will be used to help the students increase their writing skills and allow me to see what errors the students are making and work on those skills. Using the Xtreme Sand and the GloFish Aquarium Gravel the students will be able to practice writing words and letters using something other than a pen or pencil.
Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, use a multi-sensory approach, and not worry whether their materials are going to work or not or if they will have the materials needed.
