My students benefit from learning a variety of skills including life skills to become more independent in their future. Some of the children with autism are very picky eaters and have a limited diet. I hope to set up a kitchen in my classroom to include cooking activities more often and to introduce new foods for them. Teaching about a healthy and balanced diet will serve them well. I would like to include more community based instruction and have more trips to the grocery store to buy the ingredients for a recipe. Having a refrigerator and counter top oven in the classroom will allow us to save perishable food and give us a wider range of recipes we can prepare in the classroom.
