The completion of this project will allow students the advantage of communicating orally and in writing so that they can make their mark in society. It is imperative for students to be able to advance this skill as they move through the academic arena. My 5th grade students use dictionaries daily while reading complex texts during ELA class. When a student gets to a word he or she does not understand, the dictionary is the right tool to assist them. Knowing how to use a dictionary allows students to help themselves to language. Also, paper dictionaries reinforce the rapidly declining skill of using a paper reference book instead of the internet and develops hand- eye coordination.
