Getting to know one another is the first step in building relationships. I want my students to come in the first day of school and feel apart of my classroom and our school. It seems like a tiny gesture, but leaving the first day of school with a photo of the wall reaffirms they are apart of our community. As students enter throughout the year, they do not need to feel like an outcast. On their first day of school I can take their picture and add it to our wall of achievers. Students will feel included and know they are valued within the classroom. Parents will also feel included when I take family photos at back to school night to show I value their role in their child's success. Cell phone and digital cameras are quick and easy, but there are extra steps between taking the picture and printing it out. An instant camera provides an immediate picture and allows us to move on to our next project. It is about building relationships. Everything I do in my classroom focuses around building relationships between myself, students, and their families. This is one more tool to have to support those relationships.
