I recently starting using an app called Nearpod. This app is truly amazing when it comes to taking kids on a virtual field trip to places most, if not all, of my students, will never get to go. To maximize their experience, it is great for them to have their own device to explore on. They don't get the full effect when it's shown on the front board. Having their own device allows them to return to these places to review and learn more during their independent learning time. As teachers, the pressure is on to prepare our students to be proficient on the state assessments. We are required to do all of our testing on ​computers. This is a challenge. Most of our kids only get exposed to computers here at school and really need more time with basic computer skills. Having these extra machines would allow more kids more one on one time with a machine for this practice. These Chromebooks would also help my students take their daily reading tests without having to wait and wait for each other to use the few desktop computers that we currently have. I require my kiddos to take tests daily on reading comprehension and there are times when students are unable to get his/her test in due to lack of computers to test on. Getting 30+ kids to test with only 4 computers that aren't always reliable, can be very frustrating and difficult.
