My school uses interactive science notebooks. This requires us to cut out inserts and tape them into the notebooks. This allows our students to have one organized notebook rather than a binder full of papers. The interactive notebook also helps my students develop note taking skills and prepare for high school and college. However, we need scissors, tape, regular and colored pencils to complete several of our interactive activities. Several of my students cannot afford these supplies. Instead students take turns passing around the few pairs of scissors and the one tape dispenser that I have. This means that it takes 20 minutes to cut out and tape in various inserts. These 20 minutes are valuable. I would much rather spend them doing fun experiments or discussing our opinions on the latest science news. This is especially difficult because I see 150 students in a day. I am unable to keep supplies in the class for long because we are constantly using them and the demand is greater than the supplies.
Please help give my students supplies for our science interactive notebooks and science class. These students worry about so much and having classroom supplies available to them should not be one of their worries.
I am hoping that having these supplies available for them will save time in class and allow us to get deeper into the lesson and discussion. More time will be spent on learning and less time will be spent waiting to use the limited classroom supplies.
