One of the biggest obstacles our educators face is inspiring students to read. With the majority of our student population coming from low income homes, inspiration is something our students don’t come across with very often. Most of the students at our school come from Hispanic homes where English is not the primary language and parents constantly struggle to read to their children. Coming from a household where English was not spoken, I can definitely relate to some of the struggles our students face. Fortunately for me, I was introduced to books by great teachers who literally took me by the hand and showed me the wonderful world of books. It is through books that I took my first stroll down the streets of Paris alongside little Madeline, rode on a giant peach all the way to New York and was proclaimed the queen of all wild things alongside the mischievous Max.
