This project will help to enhance on building 21st century skills that promote communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and literacy in my students. My students are lacking a foundation on how to write and build their stamina for writing. Using The Write Stuff Teaching's Hooked on Writing resource, my students will need quality mentor texts to teach writing skills to develop them into successful writers. These mentor texts will help to provide a strong foundation for their writing and prepare them for testing grades and life skills. With our STEM mentor texts, we will not only focus on the literacy skills that can be taught through the text but critical thinking and peer collaboration to develop engaging engineering activities. Using Brooke Brown and Katie King, Storybook STEM resource, the mentor texts are needed to provide essential skills in reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, math, science, and engineering. These STEM books will provide quality literature on subjects that are interesting to my students. They are excited to learn about STEM topics and it provokes their thinking as they work with our STEM materials.
