We have very little instructional time throughout the day to discuss current events and general news around the globe. These data driven articles with multiple text features such as graphs, pictures, captions, maps, labels, glossaries and diagrams help to reinforce a variety of topics and interests. The students come into class every with multiple questions about things they hear on the news. Have a handheld copy of a magazine they can read and browse on their own, with a partner or whole group with me would be fabulous. I used to do this with my students in Palm Beach County and they loved it!
