Libraries have changed: They are no longer dusty warehouses for books where silence and shhhhing librarians reign supreme. In my library, rather than simply silently studying, students can engage in the messy business of learning and inquiry. But no good story is told without a problem and mine is this: our library is located at the end of a long hall and down two flights of stairs. It's like an afterthought or footnote to the rest of the school.
Because of the physical location of our school's library, I need an anchor to draw students in - a rapid charging kiosk will encourage students to make the trek across the school and down the stairs into the library. This kiosk will ensure equitable access to technology and power and give me the opportunity to discuss with students how to appropriately integrate technology into their lives. And, as this service is offered no where else in the school, the rapid charging kiosk will guarantee that our library is a unique and essential part of our high school learning community.
