We know more about the distant stars than the human brain! Beginning to understand the complexities of the brain starts with understanding that our brains and those of the animal world consist of various parts/components. That each of these components has a specific function as far as our mental processes, behaviors, or physical abilities. After introducing these parts through lecture, reading, and discussion, I would love to see my students dissect a sheep's brain to better understand the structures of a real soft-tissue brain. By working with a real brain, students will emerge with a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the complexities of the brain and of the many conditions and abilities that brains control. All by carefully dissecting the brains in small groups and then labeling each corresponding part and all appropriate connecting tissues.
