These books will provide materials for students to take home, so they can listen to and share the stories with their families at home. Many of my students do not have books of their own at home. Most of the families do not have the resources. My students are in need of frequent opportunities to listen to stories read aloud, to explore books and to see stories in print. With books to take home to share with their parents, siblings and other family members, opportunities to listen to stories will increase. The students I serve all have individual education plans and demonstrate delays in speech and language development. They need increased exposure to words to develop vocabulary and literacy skills. They need opportunities to talk about what happens in a story, retell the events in a story, use details to describe pictures and events and use language to develop and talk about their thoughts and ideas.
