My desire is to have my classroom stocked with all the supplies my students will need for a middle school math class. Taking away the beginning of the year stress of not having enough supplies, or no supplies at all will allow my students to get straight to learning. We always need pencils, paper, and calculators, but what people often overlook are the organizational products that keep it all organized and in good shape. Students already come into a math classroom with anxiety about the content, I do not want to add more by not providing the essentials to their learning environment. In addition to basic supplies like notebook paper, pencils, and reams of printer paper I have added a classroom set of calculators, organization for those calculators, and chart paper. I do not have access to a classroom set of calculators currently and I felt the anxiety of my students as they entered the state math test expected to use a calculator, but not having the practice. I use chart paper to create anchor charts on my walls to anchor my students learning so they can access the information after the unit. Other supplies included that I believe will help my students learning are elastic chair bands for students to use to fidget while they sit and work, dry erase pockets for students to use to practice math and cut down on the number of copies I make, and scissors and glue because even math classrooms can incorporate art into their lessons.
