While each section of a band is important, the percussion section is unique in the fact that there are several instruments to be played by various sticks and mallets. While our school is small, we have had growth in our elementary classrooms the past few years, which in turn has made for a larger 5th grade and junior high band. The students are responsible to get the basic percussion sticks and beginning mallets, but many are unable to afford much more than that. With our student numbers growing, our need for additional sticks, mallets and other percussion accessories is also going up. All members of the band will benefit from this as the percussion section is so important in providing the rhythmic baseline for the ensemble.
