Flexible seating makes a huge difference in my students' ability to focus on their work. I have begun implementing flexible seating in a small way to see how the students respond. There are large pillows in the library area. For my students who have the greatest difficulty staying in their seats, I purchased wobble cushions. The response has been significant. I have seen how positively flexible seating impacts the learning environment in my classroom. The students are able to wiggle their bodies which allows them to focus their minds. Unfortunately, only a few students have these options now. With the donation of a class set, all students will have the same opportunities. Instead of all the students sitting on hard chairs, the wobble seats and cushions are used to create comfortable and engaging study areas. The wobble seats will be at the small group table and can be moved when needed for project work. The wobble cushions can be used at the student's desk or easily moved to sit on the floor for carpet time and station work. Flexible seating for all students in my classroom will help them calm their minds to work, while they get the wiggles out!
