Hands on exploration is so important at this age and children learn best by actually doing. That being said, I would really love to make our science lab and library lab more hands on by setting up multiple interactive stations for the children to visit during lab time. The first science lab station I would like to set up is a microscope station with slides. Through this activity the children would really be able to learn and see up close the many plants and insects in our environment. My second station would be a balance scale station where the children can compare the weights of multiple objects in order to learn heavy vs light. My final science station would be a slime making station so the children could really understand chemical reactions and how they work (tiny jars and slime glue are needed for this station). In my library station I would like to add a globe; we read lots of stories about far away places and I would like to be able to show the students on a globe where these places are. My second station would be a sequencing card game activity where the students would work with a partner in order to put all the events in the order in which they would happen. My last library station would be the 5 little monkey felt story board. We read this story as a class when we discuss synonyms and we create our own version of the story by changing up the words to synonym words (ex: 5 little monkeys becomes 5 petite monkeys) and I would love for the children to be able to act out our version of the story by using the felt pieces.
