Students like to explore and play while learning. Providing STEM activities during small group and independent work, students will practice using problem solving skills while engineering structures and developing academic skills. While using LEGO bricks and magnets, students can create something on their own, or from a template. When finished, students can discuss or write about what they built, what resources were used, and what steps did they take to build it. Since many of my students are still trying to regulate their emotions and learning how to appropriately handle disappointments and frustrations, I want to provide books to read in class and calming bottles to put in the calming corner I am putting in my room. At the end of the day kids want to learn authentically in an engaging and creative way. They want to feel empowered to explore and create on their own. Working on time, I want to have clocks in the room so students can practice in whole and small groups.
