Currently in my classroom my students sit at at a regular desk. They are a distraction to my students. Since kindergarten involves a lot more supplies(crayons, paper, scissors,glue) it gives the student more room to spread out on the tables and supplies can be in the center in a supply caddy. Their pencil bags are constantly falling out, crayons are all over the place, glue sticks have no tops and materials are just everywhere. By eliminating the desks and providing the students with tables they will be provided with more room to work. Using tables in a kindergarten classroom will provide the students with opportunities to work together in collaborative groups. The use of desks can hinder and can be very difficult to collaborate with each other even when arranged in a group. We are constantly rearranging the desks to find a way that works and never come to a successful seating arrangement. The use of tables in the classroom will make it easier and more functional to provide the students with collaborative learning activities. This will give age appropriate seating to 4-6 year olds.
