My students are English learners and live in a low income city. Many of them come to the local public school to escape the instability of home life (abusive parents, alcoholism, poverty, etc.) One of my students mentioned that she spent more time with her teacher than her parents. In light of that, we need to make the time spent in school as positive and rewarding as possible.
