My students attend a small rural district in eastern Washington State. Total enrolement for the district is about 100 students grades K-12. The school houses students in two buildings: one for elementary students, the other for middle and high school students. The local economy is based in agriculture and employment is limited; 40% of students are eligible for free or reduced meals. In order to offer as broad a curriculum as possible teachers in our district must be flexible and able to teach a variety of subjects. I teach all sciences in grades 6 through 12 including: biology, chemistry, physics, anatomy and physiology, earth science, and environmental science. It is my goal to use science to broaden my students’ understanding of the world and their place in it.
