Learning to read is essential in first grade. We practice and strengthen our phonics skills and strive to be great readers everyday! Our class would benefit greatly from phonics centers. Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work. Flexible seating is beneficial for student learning and would help students be more focused while learning. Organization in a crazy classroom is imperative. Our class needs more storage for manipulatives, centers and the many books we have. We would greatly benefit from student storage for our class. My students use their resources everyday in class. Because of this, our materials get worn very quickly. A laminator would greatly increase the longevity of our materials!
