The games and activities chosen will allow students to part take in hands on, independent learning. These manipulatives will reinforce academic skills taught and allow students to practice them in a competitive atmosphere while building social skills. These activities will put students in charge of their own learning. The manipulatives will provide students with a choice in how they practice skills such as adding, word and sentence building, and identifying word families. The games chosen allow students to practice skills in ways that make learning fun and give students an opportunity to build relationships with their classmates while growing their brains academically. -Stowaway bins with dividers will provide for an organization tool to allow students to easily navigate through sentence building strips. -Sum Swamp Game provides interactive practice adding numbers. Students will use this during interventions to build their addition skills. -Students will use higher order thinking to build words with Phonics Dominoes during small groups. -Building CVC words in an important skill we use in first grade. Students will use this to develop word building skills and practice short vowel sounds. -Decoding Flashcards will be used in small groups. Students practice breaking words down into phonemes then rebuilding the sounds to blend the word. -Math Match It will be used in small groups to build addition and subtraction skills. -POP word families will provide an interactive way for students to practice word families and building their vocabulary. This activity will be used during intervention time.
