The Devil's Paintbox, The Quilt Walk and Sara Plain and Tall are historical fiction works about what life was like for young people who were caught up in the Westward Expansion of our country. Chains, Woods Runner and The Fighting Ground are historical fiction novels about diverse life circumstances of young people during and after the Revolutionary War. My students will be able to relate to the main characters in these books because of the human hardship and challenges the characters face. Through this relationship my students will come to understand the history of this time period in a more authentic way.
