My students will greatly benefit from having access to a wide variety of books in our classroom library. Unfortunately, building classroom libraries falls on the shoulders of the classroom teachers; as these are not something provided by schools or district curriculum. However, giving students access to a variety of books in an attempt to foster and build a love of not only reading, but also listening to a variety of genres is critical in the development of young readers. These materials would not only bring joy to my students, but also expose them to a world beyond their every day lives. Books have the power to transport you and open your eyes to new ideas, cultures and experiences. My students would greatly benefit from new library books and a listening center, complete with books on CD. Thank you for influencing the souls of my students.
