My students are bilingual fifth graders from Dallas, Texas. Our public school is located in a lower socioeconomic neighborhood. My students always try their best and they are willing to learn. They are very enthusiastic, but sometimes they get distracted by the economic hardships that their families face at home. I want to minimize that impact and be able to keep them focused in their academic by providing all the supplies they need. We have urgency in learning two languages and every moment of learning counts for me and for my children. I don't want them to be worried about school supplies; I want to see their beautiful smiles. I want to instill on my fifth graders the feeling that there is people out there that will help them. I also want them to learn that reading is so important that they can't let anything get in their way.
