Games,such as Geobrix 3-way building puzzle, Thinkfun Gordian knots, and Smartgames to name a few, will allow my students to have a variety of choices during their Daily Math choices and educational "free time". The amount of choices they will be able to have will also provide less time students will have to wait in order to start practicing their critical thinking/problem solving skills. My students currently only have a few choices during Quiet Time in the morning, free choice time when work is done, and Daily Math-Math by Myself time. Oftentimes students have to wait until another day to choose math puzzles. While my students will choose to do other things during this time, the most popular puzzle right now is Kanoodle! They certainly don't fight over it but they are definitely disappointed when they don't get to it first! Having a variety of choices like Flexi Puzzle, a pyramid puzzle, and more Kanoodles, will make their independent time beneficial to academic success in other areas.
