Nothing is better than a classroom with a well-stocked library! However, while we have a plentiful library there are several important pieces missing in the shelves in our classroom. I want my students to have the opportunity to read diverse books on the shelves that they explore every day. My students should see themselves in the books that they are reading! Students should be able to read books that show familiar faces from history while also representing the diverse cultural backgrounds that comprise our classroom. I want my students to read about important people from history as well as from cultures that they can relate to and learn from. We need quality books that show diversity. I want my students to be inspired, uplifted and validated by the books they read every day.
