Our school is located in a low income neighborhood, which is directly reflected in our student body. My students come from a variety or backgrounds, many of which have experienced trauma and obstacles no 7 to 8 year old should have to face. Yet, they come to school each day ready to work together and succeed. In our class alone there are 5 different languages represented. Countries of origin are majorily found in Central America, Africa, as well as a number of students from the United States. 100% of our students are on a free and reduced meal plan, receive a healthy snack everyday, and have the opportunity to take home a "Snack Pack" each Friday to ensure their family has food over the weekend. Our class is comprised of 21 eager to learn, grateful, energetic kiddos. My goal, as their teacher, is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the 8 hours they are at Terry Redlin, and in my classroom, each day.
