This is an AVID classroom, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The students in this program are focused on gaining the skills needed to attend college. They work on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading. In addition to skills, the students create a family atmosphere of honesty, integrity, and support through team building activities. Having a safe, comfortable atmosphere to break down barriers and to focus on building strong relationships is important. The lighting will help provide that setting, in which another classroom has already seen the impact of the atmosphere. The books requested bring up difficult content and also reflect the diverse reading of the students. Reading is important for them to engage in during their college journey. Thank you so much for the opportunity to better serve the young people that I work with on a daily basis.
