In August of this year, 55% of my students were significantly below grade level in reading. Now, in April, 70% of them are reading AT Grade Level. That is due to all of our persistence, hard work and buckets full of love and encouragement. It appears that in my 18/19 class, only 20% will be at Grade Level in August when they arrive in First Grade. Can you imagine learning to read without books? That is the reality that we face. I have a MIGHTY challenge ahead of me next year and desperately want my students to succeed. But we need books in order to close this enormous gap for my students. Each week I am making copies of one book so that all children are able to take part in guided reading which is essential to support their decoding and comprehension skills. Please help us...
