This upcoming school year, I plan on integrating much more art into my curriculum planning. I have had a subscription to an art program (Deep Space Sparkle) for the past year and have used that curriculum with my students which culminated in some very special artwork. This coming school year, I would like my students to complete 16-20 pieces of art for an art portfolio that will be displayed at Open House in May. The art will include various mediums, such as oil pastels, tempura paints, watercolors and more. Not only have studies shown that art helps to increase memory and reasoning, it also reduces childhood stress, depression, and anxiety. In a time where childhood mental health conditions are increasing, I believe that art can help my students process their feelings, increase their self-esteem, and reduce their stress levels. To achieve this goal, I need to have more art supplies in my classroom. The supplies can be expensive, as my wishlist includes liquid watercolors, watercolor paper, brushes, and oil pastels. My students will create artwork inspired by some of the Masters: Van Gogh, Picasso, and Klee. They will create guided drawings of a bald eagle, a frog prince, and a dancing cow. They will have fun! They will laugh! They will create! They will grow their brains and souls through their artistic expression!
