The students in our classroom have a wide range of academic materials that all utilize visual methods of learning subjects such as math, reading, social studies, science, as well as vital matters surrounding social skills and literacy. Many academic tasks used are composed of laminated workbooks with velcro elements (for example, an array of math equations, with each answer to be selected from a pool of solutions). Similar tactics are used for exploring conversation, greetings, community involvement and other social skills. These tasks would be sorted throughout the spaces in the Storage Cabinet, with which we would employ an element of independence. This unit will be sorted diligently into rows of either academic or functionality activities for self guided exploration as the student will navigate their assignments. Other exercises in fine motor and sensory developers will be included. Activities surrounding these subjects would include sorting, matching, pairing, shoe-lacing, counting, letter/color recognition, sharing, string work, and many more. Navigating these activities in a such concise and organized fashion will unleash a floodgate of potential as we work with our SPED kids in showing them ways to experience fulfillment and joy in this life as they understand how they too, can make a positive impact on the world!!
