Students are often hesitant to write things down in a math class. I've learned that giving them a dry erase marker and board helps them be more confident to write down their thinking since it is so easy to edit if needed. When students have the ability to get their thoughts down quickly, but also to edit those thoughts as needed, they are more likely to put their creative ideas out there. Otherwise, students keep their thoughts to themselves and never learn how to further their own thinking about topics covered in class. Students gain confidence when they are able to articulate their thoughts without judgement. Dry erase tables will be just the tool we need to make this happen in my classroom!
