The 2020-2021 school year is a year for the history books. Who would have thought we would be teaching remotely? With the uncertainty of having students back in the classroom this school year, teaching remotely is demanding for both the students and the teachers. Since the school closure in March, my students and I embarked on the distance learning journey together! We tried all sorts of different online platforms, such as Google Meet, and using Blocksi. We have learned many new things along the way. I am encouraged by my students to create a positive, engaging, and interactive classroom virtually. Distant learning requires adequate technology since this is the only way they can engage in meaningful work and complete their assignments on a daily basis. The iPad is a great tool to create a mobile classroom for the teacher. The Apple pen can leave editing marks on student work and assignments that give a more personal touch to feedback. Educational apps are available endlessly through the Apple store and open so many opportunities that may be limited on some Chromebooks. The advanced camera and recording capabilities on an iPad make live and pre-recorded lessons easy and high quality. The iPad and Apple Pencil will allow me to write and edit on student work and give feedback immediately. It will also allow me to use apps that are not provided on Chromebooks. The iPad will create a scenario where I can be immersed in the classroom with my students and have the ability to mirror to my board instead of isolating myself near my computer to change projections. This will enable students to encounter the teacher attention they need as well as streamline the lessons for optimal learning.
