This past year I implemented the idea of room transformations for the first time. Room transformations allow the classroom to be transformed into exciting real world experiences allowing students to participate in rigorous tasks while setting them on the path to high achievement and success. They get to dress the part and experience hands-on activities to make it more realistic and to get them excited about new concepts while promoting critical thinking and teamwork. Room Transformations engage students in meaningful conversations and increases retention of new skills. The looks on their faces when they walk into a classroom transformation were priceless, and something I'd like to see more often. I would like these supplies to create more classroom transformations. They're costly, so they're something I currently can't do as often as I'd like without some financial help. I'd like supplies for transformations I haven't already done. The following are some of the transformations I'd like to do, and supplies for each. (The supplies will be used for years and benefit many students to come) Hospital Transformation where students will become medical students and diagnose text features, dissect numbers, use close reading skills to "operate" on comprehension questions, extract DNA from strawberries, and much more. Black Light Spy Escape Room where students will become spies to review science concepts, solve math problems, and integrate deep level reading and critical thinking comprehension all the while collecting codes to unlock clues/activities to escape. Carnival where students will use their knowledge of force and motion to create and describe the force needed for carnival games. We would love to invite the school to join us in our carnival as we mix science, STEAM, and fun. I would also love to use the supplies to enhance some of the transformation I began this past year.
