These materials will draw the interests of the students in my classroom to come together and seek out a single minded result. The students of my class have learned to be self motivated due to their emotional disability that has caused a fracture in their lives and pushes them to protect themselves and keep others away. The LEGO projects draw the student out of the corners with bright manipulatives and a ending goal to achieve. This causes need for positive communication, networking and interpersonal skills development. The simple blocks and plates are a way to develop concepts between our students. Starting with smaller, easier challenges the students can collaborate between 2 to 3 students at a time. The groups can move on to large challenges adding more people and even giving assignments for stages of projects. These processes help to establish a bond with another person and an accountability to a larger entity. The more intricate project the EV3 will be used when the students have made the connection to process of working together and applying the skills of Project Management (i.e dissemination of responsibilities, collaborative planning and time management) It's my plan to use these projects to develop Life Skills through Project Based Learning.
