We do not have full class sets of most math and science hands-on tools and materials. Having these items will help us all be able to learn together. We often do observations in science and hand lenses would be especially helpful; Exploring force and motion would be much easier with handheld magnets; the wipe off sleeves and base 10 manipulatives would enable my students to make models of numbers and have extra tools when working in math work stations; lastly the clocks will allow my students to have a better understanding of reading an analog clock. Little minds need concrete examples to learn conceptual ideas/topics. My students love when we get to do science experiments or math learning projects, but unfortunately they do not happen as often when we have to share. In our case, not only among our class, but 3 other first grade classes as well. I know my students are passionate and excited about being able to carry out experiments and "Show What They Know" in science and math. Once we are funded for this project, it will enable us to have more opportunities for learning in a hands-on manner in science exploration centers and math work stations.
