Carpet time is an important time in our daily learning in first grade. It is a place that allows the teacher to be in close proximity of all students during important direct instruction lessons, practice activities, and building a positive learning environment.
By donating to our project, you will help improve and increase the feeling of inclusion and community as well as increasing our on task and learning time! We currently have a carpet that will fit 15-18 students at a time and the other students have to use carpet squares placed around our class carpet. This becomes difficult and distracting as most students do not want to have to use a carpet square and do not feel a part of the class community when they are outside of the carpet. Students easily are distracted from our lessons due to carpet square frustrations and seating issues.
I look forward to the day we have a carpet that is large enough that everyone will feel they have a place and they are included in every activity and lesson in our class. I look forward to the day we have enough space to make a community circle without grumbling that there isn't enough room for each child.
