My students will use the soil to plant flowers/vegetables/plants. This activity will provide students a place to gather, a place for them to interact while enjoying gardening. Additionally, it offers the students an opportunity to take on responsibility and give them a sense of school pride and ownership. I will teach the students how to take care of various garden areas throughout the campus while interacting/connecting with the students. Many of these students are in need of a break or outlet from the regular classroom activities. This will be done at their recess and/or detention time. It is meant to be a social-emotional learning intervention. Individual students and/or in small groups work together to plant and care for the campus ground while problem solving and learning appropriately handle their behavioral and social-emotional struggles.
