We encourage students to read everyday. Our younger students are given amazing reading centers where they can comfortably enjoy reading books. I feel if I can provide the same space in a more age-appropriate atmosphere, I may be able to rekindle that same love for reading that has been lost due to not having reading centers for older students to enjoy.
Through the use of over-sized bean bag chairs and a soft couch, students can make themselves feel at home while losing themselves in the pages of a good book. Books will also be easily accessible through the use of two book nooks that also add additional seating for readers to enjoy books. Instead of my students reading uncomfortably at a table in a hard plastic chair I can change the atmosphere by renovating our Super Hero Headquarters to a more relaxing state.
By having a reading center, my students can enhance their vocabulary and help them succeed while in their primary class with other students. The center may also help some students gain comprehension skills and improve their ability to read and write.
