Our K-12 school is small, but the students are committed to excellence. We are working toward improving the level of our instrumental ensembles all the way from kindergarten to high school. One of the key elements to any quality instrumental program is excellent percussion. Sadly, our drum set is worn out and needs to be replaced for us to sound as good as possible. A new drum set could make a huge difference for our entire K-12 music program. We are in the process of bringing pep band back to our school. We often we only have one percussionist available for any given game. A drum set would allow one percussionist to keep the beat for the rest of the ensemble. There are also concert band pieces which call for drum set. These would sound significantly better with a proper set of drums. Some of the students have shown potential for improvisation, leading me to think a jazz band could be appropriate. This would also necessitate a proper drum set to be effective. In addition to our current band students' needs, the younger students love to both play on the drum set and have it accompany them when they play other classroom instruments. They have shown great enthusiasm for even the dilapidated drum set we currently use. A new drum set would be a strong recruiting tool as they move closer to choosing instruments and joining band in 5th grade. A new drum set would benefit students at every level of music.
