More than half our class benefits tremendously from auditory learning; however, our class is in great need of headphones! Some families provided headphones at the beginning of the school year for their children, but as over time most of the headphones no longer work or are in disrepair and unuseable. At this point we no longer have enough headphones for every student in our class. We use headphones on a daily basis with for math activities, listen to reading and vocabulary expansion activities. Students can see and hear words on screen, which helps build phonics and fluency skills. Headphones are a great educational aid, as they help our students better concentrate while working with computer-based learning programs such as ABCYA, SPEAKABOOS, Splash Math, Readworks and more, while not distracting other students. Meanwhile, it allows the teachers in the classroom to more effectively work with multiple small groups and not be disrupted by the sounds from the computer users.
