My students will greatly benefit from the Spanish books in many ways. By providing students with relevant and engaging texts in their native language I can help foster their love for reading. Books like, Abuelita Fue al Mercado and Soy tan hermosa and many more will be used as Mentor texts to teach skill and model how their culture and families greatly contribute to our community. Students can see themselves, their families, their language and culture in the books. These books give students an opportunity to see themselves in different texts. It allows students to feel that their culture is acknowledged and valued. The books will help my students practice reading in their native language while learning about their own culture through varied texts.
