I am asking for high-quality books at a variety of reading levels that will engage my students' interest, build their reading skills, and enrich their content knowledge. Authors like Kate DiCamillo, Gary Soto, Jerry Spinelli, and Raina Telgemeier are already known and loved in my classroom; your support will add a few new favorites to our library. These authors write about diverse characters, so that all of my students can see and be seen in their reading. Our social studies curriculum covers 19th and 20th century American history, but the reading is not very engaging for my students. A wide selection of historical fiction and nonfiction titles covering topics like the Civil War and the Great Depression will hold students' interest, encourage their questions and reflections, and build their knowledge.
