My students are from a rural, high poverty area where everyone in the district receives free lunch and breakfast as part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act. Many of my students live in government housing and are English Language Learners. My students are happy, well-behaved, and eager to learn. They love to look at and read books, and most have no books at home. The students at my school want to be successful but lack the resources at home to help. Due to the demographics of our school, fundraising by parents and staff to purchase books, etc. is minimal. Our school is an inviting, caring school where teachers will go above and beyond to meet the needs of our students. The faculty works as a team to plan lessons and activities to better help our students. We collaborate with each other and the community to help our student body not only with educational needs but basic needs as well.
