As my students walked through the door, there was a collective gasp—followed by a few \"Whoas!\" and \"It's so soft!\" One of my more sensitive students immediately walked over, knelt down, and patted the fibers, saying, \"It doesn't smell like the bathroom anymore!\" It was a lighthearted moment, but it highlighted just how much they had noticed the deterioration of our previous space. They spent the first ten minutes of class just finding \"their\" spot and enjoying the comfort of a clean surface.\r\n\r\nWe are currently using the rug as our primary staging area for our \"Community Builders\" project. Every morning, we gather here for our Morning Meeting to discuss our goals for the day. Having a defined, vibrant space has made a world of difference in student focus. Previously, students would fidget or try to sit on the very edge of the old, stained rug to avoid certain spots. Now, they are eager to circle up. We recently used the rug's patterns to practice \"active listening\" body language, and the physical comfort has noticeably decreased the restless squirming that used to distract us during read-alouds.\r\n\r\nNow that we have a reliable and comfortable \"home base,\" we are moving into our unit on Collaborative Storytelling. The rug serves as our \"Stage.\" In the coming weeks, students will be working in small groups on the floor to draft scripts and perform short skits for one another. This rug has given us the dedicated floor space we needed to move away from our desks and engage in the kind of hands-on, face-to-face learning that builds real social-emotional skills.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving us a clean, bright, and fresh place to grow!","fullyFundedDate":1764737290055,"projectUrl":"project/from-worn-to-wonderful-a-rug-to-revive/9883953/","projectTitle":"From Worn to Wonderful: A Rug to Revive Our Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carlton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10110712_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755422958337","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10110712"},{"teacherId":10110712,"projectId":9531770,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our classroom has been buzzing with excitement and creativity! The STEM materials you helped fund have truly transformed the way my 4th graders learn, think, and work together.\r\n\r\nStudents now approach challenges with curiosity and confidence—designing bridges, testing circuits, and exploring engineering concepts through play and experimentation. They collaborate to solve problems, share ideas, and celebrate successes together. For many of them, these hands-on activities have turned abstract lessons into meaningful \"aha\" moments.\r\n\r\nThe new STEM supplies have also encouraged perseverance and critical thinking. I've watched students who once hesitated to take risks now lead group projects and proudly explain their designs. Every day, I see their confidence growing—and that's because of you.\r\n\r\nYour support did more than fund a project—it inspired a classroom of future innovators to dream bigger, explore deeper, and believe in their ability to build something amazing.
