As students return from their Summer vacation, many of them – especially those of low-income homes – will be starting the academic year with achievement levels lower than where they were at the beginning of summer break. This is referred to as summer learning loss, summer setback, or summer slide.
Summer loss contributes to the achievement gap between high-socioeconomic and low-socioeconomic students.
For this reason, my students need a Cricut, book baggies, and the heat-transfer vinyl in the classroom to help promote creativity and prevent summer reading loss. I quickly realized that if a sudent creates something they will take ownership of it. With your donations and generosity, the students will be able to create a Summer reading bag that they will personalize to store all of their books and materials. They will also have other materials to guide their comprehension during the Summer. Reading is a vital part of our daily lives. We have to read signs, directions, and many other things in our daily lives. I would like to provide this opportunity to ensure that my students are reading daily. This will also provide parents a chance to read with children as well.
