This project is very important to my second graders. Too often they struggle with choosing books of interest at their own level to read. They can also struggle to find a quiet, distraction free area to read on their own. Leveled books coupled with privacy partitions will allow readers to flourish independently at their own pace. It is so critical that students have many opportunities to grow as readers. Currently in the classroom, students do have some exposure to leveled books; however, our class library is outdated with a limited number of interesting books. Even if a student can find a book of interest at their reading level, they do not have a place to quietly read without distraction. Privacy partitions will complement the leveled books and give students the freedom to read distraction free almost anywhere in the classroom.
